On the first Thursday each month, Sydney Skeptics (and blow-ins from other places) get together in the Crown Hotel on the corner of Elizabeth and Goulburn Streets.

Please note that we meet UPSTAIRS, in the restaurant. We have recently been given a larger room, which used to be the restaurant. Please come UPSTAIRS and into the room off the side, just after 6pm.

This month, our special guest is Dick Smith, entrepreneur, explorer, successful business man and Australian icon.

We also continue with our new segment, (presented by Chris Brimble), of science fact or fiction. This is a short panel discussion, where we debate 3 science items to determine if they are real or BS.

People start gathering about 6pm and the night finishes when the last person leaves (which is not usually late enough to be a problem). To get there, it is a few minutes walk from both Central and Museum stations and a few more minutes from Town Hall. There is a large car park diagonally opposite the hotel (entrance in Goulburn Street) parking is flat rate $9 after 6 pm.

Enjoy a meal and a drink accompanied by lively discussion, free spoon bending lessons and the company of other sceptics, as we debate a variety of current topics.

All welcome! Bring friends too.

My wife and I had a great night at our first Sceptics meeting. Everyone to whom we spoke were friendly, intelligent and bursting with sceptical fervour! We'll certainly be regulars. Thanx to the organisers for their commitment to critical thinking.

Great crowd - like the new location in the dining room. Dick Smith was fantastic. A really energetic and engaging speaker, and a very genuine and compassionate man.
    •  Thanks to everyone who came last night - it was our biggest night yet! It was great that Dick stayed around and chatted with everyone afterwards too. What a generous guy! We are scouting for a new location for this meeting, let us know of you have any tips. Preferably a room that does not charge and somewhere central.
    •  Last night was very interesting. The talk by Dick Smith was interesting, informative, but most of all entertaining. The people that I met were all very friendly and made me feel welcome.

First one of these I went to, and was an interesting chat. Bit lazy on the start time, but hey: there was beer and food to keep occupied.
    •  What an utterly awesome night! It was such a pleasure to hear Dick Smith speak. And, as usual, the skeptic folk are such a friendly bunch to mingle with.
    •  Had to leave early due to a very early work start but enjoyed meeting some new people and chatting with them before and after the speech. Dick Smith was an animated and engaging speaker.
