Central Oregon Skeptics Meetup Group
|
Yearning to talk with someone rational for awhile? Meetup with other local skeptics for some refreshing and sane conversation. We plan to meet monthly on the Third Thursday of the Month. Let's make rational conversation a regular event! The title is Skeptics, but that's meant to include all critical thinkers: atheists, agnostics, Freethinkers, evolutionists, Brights, anybody who wants to escape living by myths.

"I have a keen interest in science, psychology, and mysticism. I have a background in physics, ecology, and medicine. I enjoy exchanging ideas with others, and encountering a wide diversity of thought."
-
"It represents the absurd human condition. However, our lives aren't eternal, like Sisyphus'. There is no 'over the hill' for Sisyphus. He never makes it. It is an eternal punishment. Yet, "The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a person's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy." http://members.bellatlantic.net/~samg... "
-
"This picture shows the eternal struggle of Sisyphus, or the Liberal's in Central Oregon? What's over the hill? What happens if he makes it? "
-
"Welcome ! We all battle that don't we ???? Sometimes our free will just happens to land the square peg in a square hole, right ? Amy "
-
"Hi Marilyn. I was looking for books at Amazon and found this book. I totally thought of you. I haven't read it but thought it might interest both of us on the topic of animal thought and communication. http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Minds-Anim... "
-
"You're a "textbook stereotypical non-conformist"? Almost seems like an oxymoron: You have conformed to the non-conformist lifestyle. Welcome to the group!"
-
"In some ways I feel like I'm textbook Generation X (stereotypical non-conformist), so I should fit into this group quite nicely."
-
"This skeptical society may be a good model for COSS. The New England SS- http://www.theness.com/home.asp . Steve Novella is the president and also started the SGU, which he hosts along with the link to Neurologica, and Weird Science - Blogs he writes. "
-
For all who might enjoy the videos: Dan Barker vs. Dinesh D'Souza, at Harvard University, 4-22-08
-
"Welcome Jim. I am a new member too. I am happy to read of your credentials,as I have a brilliant Son heading down the same path. He struggles at times with local youths who can't wrap their mind around his concepts or beliefs. It would give me hope to meet you."
-
"I would love to meet people who are not afraid of others for thinking differently, or demanding basic human rights. I want to show my kids not just their generation is full of free thinkers! This area has needed a group like this, thanks. "

This is the Skeptic Society monthly email, which happens to discuss some of the long history of "faith healing". Just food for thought - and maybe discussion. :-)

"Music is good. The name change wasn't voluntary ... I fought it for a couple of years. For you, music; for me the Light is the only possible path, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'll enjoy your music on the path, though."
-
"yeah, i'm looking to change my name, too. i found that walking to the light was a mistake, that's how i got here, next time i'll listen for the music and head that direction, that's where it is. a good sense of humor is invaluable."
