Rational Examination Association of Lincoln Land
|
Had enough of creationists, astrologers, psychics, homeopaths, and spirit channelers? Yearning to talk with someone rational for awhile? Meetup with other local skeptics for some refreshing and sane conversation! The Rational Examination Association of Lincoln Land (REALL) is dedicated to the development of rational thinking and the application of the scientific method toward claims of the paranormal and fringe-science phenomena. REALL conducts research, convenes meetings, publishes a newsletter, and disseminates information to its members and the general public. Its primary geographic region of coverage is central Illinois. REALL subscribes to the premise that the scientific method is the most reliable and self-correcting system for obtaining knowledge about the world and universe. REALL does not reject paranormal claims on a priori grounds, but rather is committed to objective, though critical, inquiry.

"Greetings, AI! (Sounds a bit Terminator-ish there.) I hope you can start coming to your meetups. We normally meet on the first Tuesday of the month at the library. Evolution-related topics have been our focus recently, but we've also discussed UFOs, Holocaust denial, cosmology, psychics, etc. Most meetings tend to be DVDs or presentations, with the occasional open discussion. I think we're also going to start getting together afterwards for food and additional conversation."
-
"Howdy, Michelle! Let's see, where is Crest Hill? (Google Maps is my friend....) Ah, up near Joliet. Yeah, making the drive to and from Springfield probably isn't really practical. Well, if you're ever down here on the first Tuesday of the month, be sure to drop by! We've got the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, so you could use that as an excuse. :-) Until then, try the Center for Inquiry in Chicago to meet some skeptics closer to home. (Or start a meetup in the Joliet area!)"
-
"I'm a 31-year-old medical transcriptionist living in Crest Hill (so making the Springfield meetings would be tough, but I'm online a lot). "
