Details
Renowned social psychologist and author Carol Tavris has written for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, Scientific American, and many other publications. Tavris will discuss and sign the new paperback edition of her book Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts ($15.00 Harcourt Brace). Tavris, with coauthor Elliot Aronson, takes a compelling look into how the brain is wired for self-justification. Backed by years of research and delivered in lively, energetic prose, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) offers a fascinating explanation of self-deception - how it works, the harm it can cause, and how we can overcome it.
I'll be hanging out at Illegal Pete's by 6:00, if you'd care to join me.

"Appreciated her lecture, thought-provoking. I gained some insight into my own areas of cognitive dissonance and came home with a great quote - Be passionate in your convictions, but hold them lightly." -

"I've been a fan of hers for 25 years, ever since her insightful book on anger. She's a great thinker and, it turns out, a great speaker. It was a privilege to hear her, see her and meet her. And I bought the book, of course."

"Interesting topic. Good to hear that some things that I've long believed are supported by data. "
